The French company "Archos" have developed their new range of DVR's not only to be practical and easy to use but also stunning to look at.

The 404 model is the smallest in the range but this doesn't mean it lacks serious power and ability. With it's 30gb built-in hard disk you can record over 100 hours of footage. Or it can hold 300,000+ photos or 15,000 songs.

If you don't have access to a camcorder with a/v inputs or you're looking for a smaller solution then this is a fantastic option.

The archos range can record at 640x480 resolution. You can use it with the DogCam Pro 480 or the Pro Zoom 550 helmet cameras.

IMPORTANT: Limitations of the archos range of hard disk recorders.

This is what we have found out about this unit since we started retailing it. The Archos range is limited to a 640x480 capture resolution at 2500kbs (amount of video samples per second) it is also quite a delicate device. The Archos does not like to be shaken or vibrated. Users have reported file corruption and system shut downs. We can only reccomend using an Archos as a recording device for your helmet camera system if you are doing very low impact activities. We also reccomend padding this device as much as possible to eliminate these problems.

If you're looking for a device that can withstand these conditions better then you should consider a camcorder set up or the PVR300r hard disk recorder. The PVR300r can record at 720x576 and 4000kbs so the video quality is much higher. Also, the PVR300r has a built-in anti-shock memory to stop loss of video when being shaken around. Archos Mini Helmet Cam

An updated version of the system used by
UK Police forces but for a fraction of the price.

Designed to be used with the Archos generation 4 including the 404. Supplied with the DVR travel kit and headstrap. This is an update of the kit used by the UK Police force. The latest firmware for the Archos allows time/date stamping for use in evidence. The mic is built-in to the cable and the camera draws power from the Archos recorder. This camera also has a built-in remote to start/stop recording without having to touch the recorder.

In order to record from DogCam or Viosport helmet cameras or any other a/v source you will need to purchase the extra DVR travel adapter. You will also need one of these if you wish to charge your archos from the mains instead of the USB port.

For optimum video quality we recommend using this recording device with:
