HQR - C2

This is a very unique bit of kit. The HQR-C2 is a 2 channel version of the excellent HQR2 digital video recorder designed for use with any bullet cameras.

Like the HQR2, the C2 version can record at full DVD quality 720x576 resolution 25fps in PAL at 8mb/s bit rate in either mpeg2 or mpeg4 mode.

It has a built-in bright LCD screen to enable easy positioning of your bullet cameras.

The menu system is easy to use and has a whole host of features like being able to choose from one of three audio inputs (internal mic, line level input and external mic input) with full gain control on the channels. This means that no matter how loud the vehicle you are using the C2 in you will always be able to get the best audio possible.

The HQR-C2 has a lemo style locking connector for it's camera inputs. The cable supplied splits in to five easy connections for connecting to existing bullet cameras. It will also provide 12v power to the bullet cameras keeping the cabling nice and tidy.

The HQR-C2 can be controlled by an optional wired remote (lanc) controller or by it's supplied infra-red remote control.

Unlike the HQR2, the C2 version has a built-in picture-in-picture processor. When you connect more than one camera to this recorder you will be given a choice of PiP size and position that can be configured using the on screen menu (see images on the left).

You will be able to swap the images around choosing between full screen ch1, full screen ch2, PiP or side by side mode whilst you are recording using the remote controller.

Before the C2 became available the only other way to do this was by using an external quad screen processor involving lots of wires, cables and a confusing manual. The C2 makes it easy to set up a 2 camera system in less than a few minutes.

Although the C2 has a built-in 5000mah lithium gel polymer battery, it is advised to provide external power (12v) to the system for longer record times. Some older bullet cameras draw quite a bit of power compared to the newer HQ2 bullet cameras.

Full software is supplied to help you customise the recorder. You can have titling for each of the 2 camera inputs as well as full brightness, contrast and saturation control. So, even if you are using older or lower resolution bullet cameras you can still get good results with this digital video recorder.

Questions and Answers:

Will this kit record from both cameras at the same time?

Yes, but it is only one stream. You can choose to record from either camera in full screen mode or inset the picture from one camera in to the other (PiP) and you can change this in real time on the fly as you are recording using the IR remote controller supplied.

Can I change the PiP after I've finished recording?

No, what you see on the screen during recording is what you get when you play the video back. This can't be changed after you have finished recording.

Can I view the video on the screen?

The built-in colour TFT screen is used for positioning the cameras only. The HQR2 and HQR-C2 are digital recorders only and do not support playback. You will be able to set the PiP and move it around using the built-in screen before and during recording.

Can I use this on a PC or MAC?

Yes, in mpeg4 mode you will be able to play the video back on both PC and MAC platforms. The software supplied for converting Mpeg2 video is PC only. All settings can be changed using the on screen menu and so the software is only required if recording in Mpeg2 mode.

What happens if my external power supply is lost during recording?

Your video will not be affected. The HQR will fall back on it's battery back up so you can safely save your video files before turning the unit off.

What is "Sports Mode"?

Sports mode is an advanced encoding feature which greatly improves video quality during high motion filming. It is highly recommended to use Sports mode for most filming applications.
