Delabole Wind Farm

Delabole was the first village in the UK to have a wind farm. The ten turbines generate 400kW each and on average produce 10,000MWh per year which is enough to supply electricity to 2500 homes. Shortly after the site was completed one of the turbines got struck by lightning which destroyed the blades. You can still see the damaged blades at the Energy Center site at the wind farm.

Delabole was a great place to grow up. A huge slate quarry and plenty of space to explore in the countryside made it the best playground ever. If you're visiting Cornwall then I highly recommend visiting Delabole.
