Racelogic Video V-Box
Broadcast Quality Solid State Video Recorder with real-time overlay

The Video V-Box by Racelogic

This has got to be the coolest in car camera recording system we have ever seen.
The Video Vbox is a dual camera solid state video recorder and data logger all in one box. It can be as easy to use as taking it out of it's box, mounting the bullet cameras and plugging in to your car's cig lighter socket. When the video v-box detects you are moving, it starts recording video at full 720 x 576 resolution 25fps at 8mb/s bit rate. The only other recorders that can acheive this kind of video quality are the PDR100, XM-DVR Pro and the HQR-2.

With a single camera you can choose to record single channel full screen with or without video overlay. Plug in the second camera and you have a neat PiP (Picture in Picture) recording system at your disposal.

This is where it gets clever: The software supplied (PC only) allows you to fully create your own video overlay which is recorded in real time as you drive. You can select from a number of overlay options including customised speedo and rev counters and G-Force measuring. You can also overlay an image of the track you are driving on by importing it from either racelogic's database or from Google Earth.

You can take a photo of your own clocks and load them in to the video v-box (see pics to the right) We did this with a Lotus Elise and the resulting video is superb.

The on-board GPS receiver will work out your speed, acceleration and lateral g-forces and display it on your video. This is totally customizeable using the software supplied in the kit.

The Mpeg4 video files produced by the video v-box can be played back on any computer and we recommend downloading a free copy of VLC from here to play the video.

Installing this kit is really easy. It's pretty much a plug and play system and you can be up and running in minutes even without any prior knowledge of video systems or data loggers.

If you already own a bullet camera then you can use the vbox with your existing equipment but for quality purposes we recommend purchasing the system with either our HQ1 or HQ2 cameras.

The cables supplied with this kit have microphones connected and so when using 2 cameras you will get stereo audio on your recordings.
The kit is supplied with a 2gb class 6 SD memory card which will hold around 2 hours of video. The SD card is upgreable right the way up to 16gb.

A video output cable is available but not part of the package. The easiest and cheapest way to set up your cameras is to plug the v-box in to a laptop. Live video from both cameras can be streamed to the computer making positioning of the cameras really easy to do.

Other features of the video v-box are single or multi channel CAN logging.

With the purchase of the additional ODB cable you can connect the v-box to most modern car's computers and log data from the car in real time. This can be used to overlay graphical data to show you things like RPM and engine temps etc.

Please note: If you purchase the video V-Box with no cameras you will have to purchase camera connecting cables available below.

(What is this?)

The Video V-Box is supplied with a 2gb SD Memory card. This will hold around an hour of video at full quality. For longer record times, please add an extra SD card. SD Cards supplied are the fastest Class 6 cards and all have a 2yr warranty.
The Second camera is used for the "picture in picture" which appears as a small inset image in the main video.

As this is not going to be anywhere near full screen you can get away with using a lower resolution camera if you like.
The watermarked version of the V-Box has a fixed "Racelogic" logo embedded in the top corner of your video.

If you choose the non-watermarked version then you can remove this logo or insert you own.

OBD-2 Cable for V-Box

This cable goes from your car's OBD-2 connector to the Video V-Box for logging extra data.

Most cars can output info about RPM, engine temps and fuel consumption and this can be displayed by video overlay in real time on the video v-box.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with your car make/model and year and we will let you know exactly what info can be logged from your ECU.

This cable adds extra functionality to the video vbox system. It is not essential to have this cable if you do not want to display data from the ECU.
